The CROWN HOTEL was established in the 1880s and was originally a two-storey building known as the Crown Inn. Surry Hills was then an overcrowded, working class area, notorious for its drinking dens, gangs and brothels. Over time, Surry Hills has evolved into trendy and diverse suburb, renowned for its restaurants, pubs and artistic community.

In keeping with the dynamic Surry Hills community, the CROWN HOTEL has undergone many changes over the years from incorporating a parlour and dining room in the 1940s, to more recently providing backpacker accommodation in the 1990s.

Today the CROWN HOTEL is still a Surry Hills favourite, with the Hotel having completed a major two-year multi-million dollar renovation in 2005. This has seen the opening of two new bars, PLAYERS and DOME, as well as new gaming facilities, outdoor café and the development of BOUTIQUE ACCOMMODATION on Level Two.
